One of the distinct advantages that the MOPI has over similar motorcycle ride-on toys is that it is steerable. It allows my three year old to make turns and navigate around corners smoothly instead of having to stand up and then lift and re-position the motorcycle each time he wants to change direction. In addition, the wheels turn very smoothly so that he can easily glide on it, making it not only fun but great for developing balance. Finally, it is very light (my son can carry it around with one hand) and yet very sturdy.
My 2 year old grandson loves this motorcycle. It’s the perfect size. His feet touch the ground and he whizzes down the driveway with no problem. I bought this motorcycle because it’s the only one I could find that turns and it’s not to wide. Someday, we’ll be needing the next size up!
We bought a Mopi for our grandson a month before he turned 2. When we opened it, we had some of the reactions of the fellow who wrote such a negative review on this site. It seemed small, too simple, and of course has no sounds or flashing lights. We even bought a backup choice–a more lavishly appointed bigger riding toy shaped like a motorcycle that made loud noises. Fortunately, we decided to stick with the Mopi.
HE LOVES IT. He loved it from the first second, and it remains his prize possession 6 months later. His 5-year-old sister begs him for turns on it (and she rides it easily!). He can zip up and down the sidewalks of New York, and his mother carries it easily up to their apartment. The design of the Mopi is brilliant. Because the sides are smooth and there is no seat back protuberance, our grandson can jump on and off in a single motion. It does not tip over and seems to be very easy to steer. This is a great toy, and I will be glad to buy another one the next time I need a gift for a child between 1 and 3.
